Nominations for next years Golden Globe awards were announced in Beverley Hills California yesterday and Among the list are Helen Miren, Dame Judy Dench, Kate Winslet and Borat star Sacha Baron-Cohen who recently picked up an award at the British Comedy Awards in London.

The 64th Gloden Globes which often yield similar results to the Oscars are to be held on 15th Jan at The Beverly Hilton in Beverley Hills, California.

However another strong indication of who will pick up an Oscar is the 2007 Academy Awards which will be held on 25 February next year - a week earlier than this year's ceremony.  Nominations will be announced later in the New Year.

The Golden Globes have run since 1944 by the Hollywood Foreign Press Association (HFPA) and if Sacha Baron-Cohen picks up a Golden Globe, he will be a prime nomination to collect an Oscar later in the year.

Baron Cohen narrowly escaped being nominated in the foreign-language category for his priceless turn as Kazakhstan's second most famous television journalist, Borat Sagdiyev. Instead, he is up for best comic actor against the likes of Johnny Depp and Will Ferrell.

Sacha Baron Cohen's film, Borat: Cultural Learnings of America For Make Benefit Glorious Nation of Kazakhstan, was also nominated for best film musical or comedy, in a strong category also including The Devil Wears Prada, Little Miss Sunshine, Thank You For Smoking and the heavily touted Motown musical Dreamgirls.
