Glasgow airport suicide attack

A Jeep Cherokee with flames pouring from it has rammed into the main terminal of Glasgow airport in Scotland. The vehicle was driven at full speed and crashed into glass doors at the entrance to the airport. The crash sparked a fire and the airport has been evacuated. A Glasgow police spokeswoman said there were no immediate reports of any injuries and that the blaze had been extinguished. She said two people had been arrested following the incident. The office of Gordon Brown, the British prime minister, said he was "being kept aware" of the situation. "It may have been an explosion of petrol in the tank because it was not a massive explosion." Stephen Clarkson, an eyewitness, said: "The jeep is completely on fire and it exploded not long after. It exploded at the entrance to the terminal.
Ian Crosby, a taxi driver outside the terminal, said: "It raced across the central reservation and went straight into the building. "It would appear to me to have been a deliberate attack. I think this was a terrorist attack." Crosby said a stocky Asian man had got out of the car and was quickly wrestled to the ground by bystanders. James Edgar, another eyewitness, said the driver fled from the car and was tackled by police. Helen Boaden, a BBC news executive who was at the airport said a traveller tried to restrain one of the men. Boaden said: "Then the police came over and wrestled him to the ground, the fire was burning through his clothes, and finally put him out with a fire extinguisher." She described both men as South Asian.Glasgow is Scotland's largest airport.
