Iggy Pop broke all the rules tonight and created a huge headache for himself and his security staff as he invited the crowd at Glastonbury to join him on stage during a live performance.

The cardinal sin of live performing was committed in the middle of his song ‘no fun’ when he allowed one fan to vault the barriers and join him on stage.

The fan was quickly joined by another and then another – within minutes the stage was full and Iggy Pop was in danger of becoming crushed along with hundreds of other fans.

Guitarist Ron Asheton’s Fender guitar was stolen during the 10 minute long invasion and Iggy was forced to try to calm the mob as they refused to leave.

One fan said “It was mental, one minute Iggy was up there singing and then there were 2-300 maybe 400 others leaping over the fence and getting up on stage with him”. One person was injured in the mad moment and another was arrested for indecent exposure.

Paul Williams – a security guard at the side of the stage said “Iggy broke the rules big time – he should know better than to invite the crowd up on stage – it’s a serious safety risk and this could have been a lot worse than it was. Thankfully no one was seriously hurt”.

Eventually, with the help of a dozen plus security officers and gentle persuasion from Iggy begging “we need to thin it out now, calm it down calm it down – I need my stage back” the stage slowly began to emerge as one by one the crowd were ushered off stage.

Iggy who turned 60 in April eventually resumed his set and continued with ‘Little baby’ ‘Candy’ ‘Passenger’.
