Despite the prosecution contending that the residue was just one component of a “compelling circumstantial case”, Barry George’s QC said that forensic scientists claimed that the metallic residue could have been there as easily as if he was just in the neighborhood. The jury deemed that too much weight was put onto that evidence. The CPS have asked for a retrial and that has been granted. Barry George will have to go through the whole trial once more but it is what his sister has been campaigning for since the 26th April 1999.
