Plaudits keep raining down on Manchester United

Paul Scholes, Ryan Giggs, Wayne Rooney and Cristiano Ronaldo all up for PFA awards

The Manchester United Trio of Cristiano Ronaldo, Ryan Giggs and Paul Scholes are three of the six nominees for the 2007 PFA Senior player of the Year which also include;Cesc Fabregas(Arsenal), Didier Drogba (Chelsea) and Steven Gerrard (Liverpool).

Manchester United have had a promising season so far this year, remaining in contention for three out of the four contested trophies. They are currently sitting on top of the Premiership, three points and a considerable goal difference clear of rivals Chelsea who they are set to face in the the FA Cup Final having beaten Watford 4-1 in the semi-finals this past Saturday. A place in the final of the Champion's League also awaits should they beat AC MIlan in the Semi-Finals.

Arguably their brightest player, Cristiano Ronaldo, also features in the nominations for the 2007 PFA Young Player of the Year along with Manchester United teammate and two time winner of the award Wayne Rooney. Other nominees include Kevin Doyle (Reading), Cesc Fabregas (Arsenal), Aaron Lennon (Tottenham) and Micah Richards (Man City)

But it is Ronaldo (22), who has just agreed a record 5 year £120,000 (estimated) a week contract to keep him at United until 2012, that leads the way in the minds of analysts with an impressive tally so far this season of 45 appearances, 21 goals (16 of those in the Premiership) and 13 assists. The nominations for both awards follow a controversial World Cup for Ronaldo in which he was accused by British sports writers of trying to get clubmate Rooney sent off in the Portugal v England game.

A successful way to end an already interesting year for United and Ronaldo? Only time will tell.

The awards ceremony will be held on Sunday 22nd of April at London's Grosvenor House Hotel.
