Squeeze, Supergrass and Madness headline at GuilFest 2007 – ‘Glastonbury in the City’

 If you’re into your live music, good times and good food but not into your mud, mayhem and manure, then this weekend sees one of the biggest and most popular festivals in the country taking place in a very civil and central location – Guildford in Surrey.

The GuilFest music festival is quickly becoming one of the most respected and much visited events in the country and after a very wet and muddy Glastonbury, Guildford in Surrey in July is offering a much more civilised and specialised music lovers opportunity.

This year will see huge acts such as Supergrass, Squeeze and none other than Madness appearing on stage and if you appreciate talent, the GuilFest has it all!

Set in one of the most tranquil and beautiful areas of the city of Historical Guildford, Stoke Park boasts being one of the largets urban park areas in the South of England. The festival GuilFest was started in 1992 by Tony Scott, who still runs and directs the festival

The GuilFest event has grown over it’s 16 year history and in more recent years attendances have increased dramatically from what was 1500 people a day in 1991 to the now enormous 21000+ each day attending the gig today. GuilFest is now well established as one of the countries leading music events.

There are over 200 acts this year and with prices starting reasonably at £40 a day for adults, £90 weekend, £100 weekend with camping, children aged under 12 go free with a ticket holding adult.. It’s no wonder that GuilFest is the award winning event it is  - being voted as “best family festival”.

This years other acts include Reggae legend Jimmy Cliff, Dub Kings Uriah Heap, Morcheeba, The Magic Numbers, The Ordinary Boys, Richard Thompson, Saw Doctors... Guildford’s outdoor swimming Lido and Spectrum Leisure Centre on either side of the festival grounds that offer easy breaks from the main festival site with a refreshing swim as well as a showering opportunity for the campers.

Previous years line ups have included Embrace, Billy Idol, A-Ha, The Pogues, Paul Weller, Status Quo, Blondie, Simple Minds, The Proclaimers, Katie Melua,  UB40, The Darkness, Alice Cooper, Atomic Kitten. Jools Holland, Fun Lovin’ Criminals, Pretenders, Wonderstuff, Lightning Seeds, Stereo MCs, The Stranglers, Kosheen, Gary Numan,  Echo And The Bunnymen, Lulu, Daniel Bedingfield, Alabama 3, Nizlopi, Thunder,  Hayseed Dixie, The Alarm,  The Beta Band,  The Damned,  Eddie And The Hot Rods, The Hamsters, The Levellers and Ocean Colour Scene.

I heard thru the grapevine that she was - as she is planning to do a gig with Jason Donovan and that GuilFest was one she considered doin a warm up at.. Is this true? Supergrass AND Madness!
