The truth about Celebrity Big Brother
As Davina McColl strolled around and showed off the newly refurbished Elstree Big Brother house, the 11 celebrities prepared to run the gauntlet and endure the glare of public scrutiny for the next 5 weeks, the reality of the programme began to emerge.

The middle of the Jackson 5 ,and elder brother to Michael Jakson. Jermain was recently declared as one of ‘I’m a celebrity’ winner David Guest’s best friends. And as Mr Jackson arrived dressed in a Muslim style dark red robe, his pre-recorded video played to the viewers at home “I’m very clean and very picky about my food” he said. He described how he supported his younger brother Michael during his ordeal in an LA court case and as Davina brought him up to the stage, he looked quite uneasy. “Firstly, how are you going to cope without your servants?” asked Davina. “Michael is in Vegas but he has a way of seeing everything” said Jermain. “Blame it on the boogie” said Davina. “Blame it on the sunshine” replied Jermain and off he went. Danielle Lloyd the Miss Great Britain winner who was famously stripped of her title because of her association with footballer Teddy Sheringham who was on the judges panel at the time was introduced as the next guest. Danielle tells on her website how she would just be happy helping others “One in four women has at sometime been the victim of domestic violence and it is not only women who suffer, sadly the children suffer too. Women's Aid takes thousands of calls from women every year, but unfortunately due to being under resourced and of course severely under funded, last year alone 88,500 calls could not be answered. If I can help in any way no matter how small I will.” The celebrities were flowing thick and fast by now and Davina was into her stride and as the rain came down, housemate No.3 arrived. Ken Russel – ‘just an Old Movie Director’ he described himself when Danielle asked him outright who he was. Only one of the UK’s most prolific movie directors with a string of film credits to his name including ‘The Elephant Man’, ‘Lady Chatterley’, ‘Road to Mandalay’ and the controversial ‘Women In Love’ a sensual story about two men and two women in the high society of the 1900’s. As Ken walked down to the house chanting ‘I’m singing in the rain’ he looked quite frail in his 79 year old frame and Davina had to help him into the front door. Housemate No. 4 is ex-S-Club 7 singer Jo Amara. Jo hasn’t been seen since her departure from the band. She took a long break from pop when the band split in 2003. These days Jo spends her time breeding dogs. She was clearly very nervous as she stepped up to the front door of the house. 70’s pop singer Leo Sayer who’s real name is Gerard Sayer said “I’m quite funny, quite amusing I don’t have too many hang up’s – lets make this a Leo Sayer house” He arrived in jovial spirits posing for the photographers as he made his way toward Davina. “It’s Leo Sayer” she shouted –Leo Sayer who lives in Sydney Australia “I’ll put a thunder in your heart” he said as he marched up the steps. Leo finally broke the secrets of the names of the fellow house mates as he seemed to know most of their names. Bollywood film actress Shilpa Shetty said she’d miss her entourage – famous for films such as ‘Baazigar’, ‘Aag’, ‘Hatkadi’ and a string of others is one of Cleo Rocos – Kenny Everett’s female side-kick in the 80’s cult comedy show showed up as housemate no. 7. Cleo was a well known face on the show and she recently showed up on tv show ‘Bo in the By the time housemate no.8 Donny Tourette had walked the red carpet, he had upset all of the photographers, the crowd and Davina herself. His outrageous onstage arrogance and bad boy image seemed to be an image that he was very desperate to uphold as he stuck two fingers up at everyone he saw. Functionpix photographer David Toney called out to the 22 year old performer “You’re not Liam Gallagher” Mr Tourette answered with a four letter obscenity and a one fingered salute. Newspaper columnist and journalist Carole Mallone followed soon after and for someone who once said about Big Brother “was just A bunch of morons on a reality show” she certainly proved to be no exception. Asked why she came on the show she replied “I couldn’t say no – I just had to do it – I’m hoping my friends will be nice, I’ve no skeletons in the closet, I’m married forever” – whatever that means? Ian ‘H’ Watson completed the line up of ex-pop dance band housemates. Ian chose today to officially announce that he was gay. As if we didn’t already know that. A-Team cult TV star Derk Benedict was the 11th and final contestant to enter the Big Brother House. Derk has starred in many a hit tv series including Battlestar Galactica and that other well known one ‘Chopper One’? Dirk is already tipped as one of the favourites to win according to bookmakers. Are these people just a bunch of ex-has-been’s? Ex-nobodies? Wanabes? Will there be any surprises? The real truth about Celebrity Big Brother is that these people are all seeking our attention, our acceptance and our approval in order that they can become better known. Bigger celebrities than they are now. Ultimately their net-worth will increase and they will become richer. At least for a while - So it’s no wonder that for this year’s celebrity Big Brother the producers were overwhelmed with potential applicants. Fame has taken a back seat to fortune it seems.
