Saturday 12th May 2007, 10:36
Star players Robbie Keane, Dimitar Berbatov, Michael Dawson and Ledley King displayed the four new Puma strips at the sports manufacturers London offices.
The North London team also revealed an exclusive 125th Anniversary kit to mark the special occasion. This particular strip comes as a blue and white halved shirt with white shorts and will be on general sale in September. The club’s Chairman Daniel Levy, emphasised the landmark Tottenham have reached. “Our 125th Anniversary is a landmark for our Club. Whilst our focus is always on providing for the future, it is equally important that we look to commemorate our long and rich heritage. Just one of the ways we shall be marking this occasion is with a Special Edition 125 Anniversary shirt. A blue and white halved shirt was first worn by our players in 1885 and a similar shirt will be worn on one occasion during the 2007/2008 season to celebrate the Club’s 125th Birthday.” Spurs are making large efforts to mark the special occasion and their fans will be able to buy the Anniversary shirt as a boxed replica complete with a unique numbered certificate of authenticity to commemorate the 125-year history. Martin Jol’s men will continue to perform in the traditional lilywhite shirts for their home strip. Their lilywhite heritage is there for all to see as both shorts and socks complete the clean image which is launched on-sale on June 30th. Fans will have to wait until July 21st to purchase the second and third strip, which are all navy and all yellow respectively. Both strips will display an alternative MANSION advert on the shirt. The gambling company will appear in Mandarin Chinese script, a small feature that can make all the difference abroad according to Spurs Executive Director Paul Barber. “The club has always enjoyed massive international support and it is a mark of the club’s tradition and success that we can now look to broaden our appeal in markets such as China. Working in the Chinese market is an exciting prospect for us and for our partners, MANSION. We look forward to exploring the Chinese market in the years ahead working closely with MANSION who already have many customers in this part of the world.” Tony Ward, Puma General Manager was delighted with the new collaboration. “PUMA are delighted to be working with a club with such fantastic heritage and tradition as Tottenham Hotspur. Our product design team have worked hard to create a range of kits that combine the Club’s history, values and image with today’s modern technologies and design.” Tottenham also used the event to announce that their new all-white home strip will be worn by the first team at their final game of the season at home to Manchester City.
