Father Christmas for Justice?

Not quite a Happy Christmas for some –

I joined the 200+ strong brigade of Father Christmases today as it set off on a march across London. A dedicated and determined movement of dads had met once more to voice their grievance against this country’s unfair family legal system.

It began in a cold and foggy Tufton Street, Westminster – amidst a strong Police presence and as the group set off behind a red London bus, I couldn’t help feeling a sense of sadness at the thought of the many children at the heart of it all.

I wanted to show my support and join the march with The Fathers-4-Justice group, the civil rights movement who fight for truth, justice and equality in family law. I walked along with Matt O’Connor the founder of F-4-J and Glen Poole and the hundreds of other dads and to add my voice to the growing number of men, women, and children who are suffering at the hands of this country’s unfair family justice system and as I did so, my ex-partner called to tell me that she and my son would be leaving for Ireland later this very afternoon and I would miss out once again on seeing him in spite of a court order that says I can.

As the group approached the Embankment I felt quite emotional looking back at the hundreds of other people all caught up in a similar situation to mine – all dressed in red cloaks and red hats and then the irony of the whole situation brought a tear to my eye as several hundred Father Christmases, a figure synonymous with bringing joy to millions of children around the world, traipsed past the London eye some carrying sacs of presents that will once again remain unopened this Christmas.

The march came to an end at the steps of St. Paul’s Cathedral where Glen Poole gave a moving speech to the hundreds of Santa’s and the huge crowd that had gathered to join in the demonstration and then all that remained was the pitiful pile of presents that will not be finding their way to the children once again this year.
